WATERFORD, Ohio (WOUB) — The Waterford Wildcats defeat the Belpre Golden Eagles 58-6 in the final week of the regular season
The Waterford Wildcats come head-to-head with the Belpre Golden Eagles for the chance to hold complete control over the TVC-Hocking title. This final week of the regular season will also solidify the team’s spots in the playoffs, if they get one. Belpre is in severe danger of not making the 2026 playoffs while a win for Waterford could guarantee a first-round home playoff game.
On the kickoff return, Wildcat Devin Pottmeyer gets the catch and takes off the field for over 40 rushing yards. This would set up Waterford in a perfect scoring position. Avery Pottmeyer throws a short pass to Roman Casteel for the touchdown. With this touchdown, Avery Pottmeyer becomes Waterford’s single season passing touchdown record holder. Cats take the early lead 7-0.
Belpre was struggling to get through the Waterford defense, as the Wildcats force a three-and-out. Waterford takes over back on offense and makes quick work of the Belpre defense. Avery Pottmeyer continues to prove why he holds this passing record, as he finds Brayden Smith in the end zone. The Wildcats extend their lead 14-0.
The next possession should be an opportunity for Belpre to get some numbers on the board, but Waterford has a different idea. The Wildcats force safety and added two points to their lead, 16-0.
Still in the first quarter and the Golden Eagles have been forced to punt on every possession. Waterford, however, has been able to score on every possession so far. They add another one to the board when Hayden Jones takes a run to the house. Wildcats pulled even further away 23-0. On the next play, the Eagles fumble the ball, and Waterford recovers. This puts them back on offense and gives them another opportunity to score in the first quarter with two minutes to go. The Wildcats would take this opportunity and put another one away. They lead 30-0.
Belpre would get their lone touchdown of the night in the second quarter but not before Waterford puts another one on them. The score is 37-6 after an attempt for a two-point conversion by the Golden Eagles falls short.
The Wildcats continue to get touchdowns after touchdowns throughout the rest of the night and eventually take the win over Belpre 65-6. With this win, the Wildcats become the TVC-Hocking Champions in the final week of the regular season.
