Students Construct Path To Information At Stroud’s Run

Those visiting Strouds Run State Park near Athens will have a new place to find information before venturing out onto one of the park’s numerous trails.
Located near the trailheads of Thunderbunny Trail, Hickory Multi-use Trail and Trace Trail, a new information kiosk was constructed earlier this week by students from Hocking College.
Putting their training into action, students from the ecotourism program spent a portion of the past week constructing wood and steel structure. The main portion of the structure was constructed with locally sourced wood, with the roof made of steel.
Around a dozen students took part in the three-day project to construct an information kiosk which is to include trail maps, park information and other items.
The students work as a group to measure and cut the wood to the sizes needed, drill holes for the nails and bolts to be placed and hammer the nails in the proper places. As one person would drive the nail into place, another would hold the board, while others would make sure the board or beam remained level throughout the process.
The ecotourism students were completing the project as an environmental service project for their adventure leadership class.
The project was a collaboration between Hocking College, Strouds Run State Park, Friends of Strouds Run and the state saw mill.
This is not the first project completed at the park by students from Hocking College. Over the past several years, students have also constructed a bench and bridge near the same trailheads at the park.
