Eagles Outhit Ohio, 13-6

Sunday would prove to be an unpleasant day for the Ohio baseball team, as Eastern Michigan hit its way to a series-winning victory over the Bobcats, 13-6.
After trading runs in the first, the Eagles (12-14, 2-4 MAC) jumped ahead in the third, pushing across four runs to extend their lead to 5-1. Then the Eagles poured it on, pushing their lead to 10-1 after scoring two in the fifth, and three in the sixth.
The Bobcats (5-21, 2-4 MAC) would not score again until the seventh inning, where they pushed across four runs, highlighted by a two-RBI single from freshman Nate Squires, and a pair of RBI hits from senior Ben Otto & sophomore Jake Madsen. That cut the Eagles’ lead to five, which would be as close as the Bobcats would get, as EMU drove in two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth, extending their lead up to 13-5.
The Bobcats would get another run however in the top of the ninth, on an RBI-single by sophomore Tyler Wells, scoring Nate Squires, bringing the score to the final of 13-6.
Freshman pitcher Connor Sitz got the start for the Bobcats, but struggled in only three innings pitched, giving up five runs on seven hits.
Ohio was led offensively by sophomores Cody Gaertner and Jake Madsen, who had a combined six hits and an RBI.
Senior Dan Schmidt also saw his 12-game hitting streak come to an end, but still reached base safely for the 13th consecutive game on a walk in the ninth inning.
The Bobcats will be back on the field Tuesday to take on Xavier (10-13) at Bob Wren Stadium. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
