< < Back to democratic-gubernatorial-candidate-makes-stop-athensThe former FBI agent turned politician looking to unseat Republican Governor John Kasich in 2014 hit the campaign trail just days after announcing his bid for the state’s top job.
Cuyahoga County executive Ed FitzGerald stopped in Athens on Saturday morning as he works to get gain support and recognition amongst Democrats across Ohio.
A group of about twenty people, consisting mostly of students with Ohio University College Democrats, met FitzGerald at Ohio University's Baker Center.
FitzGerald spent most of the time attacking the Republican but offering few details on his positions on specific issues.
When OU junior Alex Doherty asked FitzGerald about his views on LGBT rights he said his campaign would be making an announcement soon.
"I can tell you, without ruining the surprise, that it's going to be progressive," FitzGerald said.
He said he would be announcing his positions on other issues over a period of time.
FitzGerald also made a visit to the Muskingum County Democratic Party Headquarters in Zanesville.
