< < Back to ohio-womens-track-signs-local-discus-thrower-2013-classThe Ohio University women’s track and field team landed a local recruit Monday with the signing of discus thrower Emma Ryan. The Warren High School (Vincent, Ohio) senior signed her National Letter of Intent as a member of the 2013 recruiting class in a Monday ceremony according to the Marietta Times.
Ryan, a 5-foot-11 thrower, is a three-time All-Ohio honoree in the discus and three-sport letterwinner. She played volleyball, basketball and competed in track and field for the Warriors.
"[Ryan] played other sports in high school, and it'll be interesting to see what she accomplishes in college when she focuses on throwing year-round," Warren girls track and field head coach Sally Maddox told the Marietta Times.
Ryan primarily threw the discus in high school but will also compete in the hammer throw and weight throw for Ohio when she joins the team in the fall. She joins a women’s track team that recently finished in ninth place at the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championships in Akron, Ohio. Bobcats senior discus thrower Alexi Macri finished 13th in discus throw at the event with a score of 139-11.
Last year at the Ohio High School Track and Field State Championships, Ryan threw a personal best 136-5, good enough for a seventh place finish amongst Division I throwers.
Ryan is currently finishing up her senior season with the Warriors and is seeking a fourth All-Ohio mention. She will compete in the OHSAA State Track and Field Championship at Ohio State on June 8, 2013.
