Wildlife Council Votes Against Deer Hunting Changes

State wildlife officials have shot down the latest proposed changes to the deer-hunting season in Ohio.
The change, which would have been the second one this spring, proposed adding two days of open gun and bow-hunting in early January, followed by three days of muzzleloader hunting.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that members of the Ohio Wildlife Council on Wednesday voted 4-3 to reject the changes, with members accusing the Ohio Division of Wildlife of trying to push a Republican agenda.
Republicans in the Legislature were outraged at changes earlier this spring that eliminated two hunting weekends in December, replacing them with two muzzleloader-only dates in October.
Nearly 30 legislators signed a letter in opposition. They argued that the shift to an earlier deer season reduced opportunities for hunters.
