Two-Vehicle Accident Kills One Near Oak Hill
< < Back to two-vehicle-accident-kills-one-near-oak-hillThe Jackson Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said an Oak Hill Man is dead after an accident Saturday afternoon.
The crash occurred on State Route 279 near Oak Hill in Jackson County at about 3:15 p.m.
Officers say a 2000 Kia Sephia driven by Susan Canter, 39, of Oak Hill, was traveling westbound on State Route 279 and failed to yield during a left turn onto Slab Hill Road. The car was struck by a 1991 GMC pick-up truck driven by Freddie E. Hammonds, 47, of Oak Hill.
Canter’s passengers, David J Evans Jr., 75, of Oak Hill and Wilbur J. Johnson, 48, of Gallipolis, were taken to Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, WV. Evans was pronounced dead by doctors.
Canter and Hammonds suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash. Hammonds’ passenger, Tammy A. Evans, 39 of Oak Hill, was taken to Holzer Medical Center in Jackson, OH by Jackson County EMS.
Investigators believe alcohol was a factor in the accident. The crash remains under investigation.
