Athens Bulldogs Prepare For TVC Ohio Play
< < Back to athens-bulldogs-are-ready-tvc-ohio-playThe TVC Ohio is one of the most competitive conferences for high school football in the state. The past few seasons have provided some exciting action right down to the very end, and this season in the TVC-Ohio will be no different.
With three teams unbeaten and one team with one loss going into TVC-Ohio play, it should be another tough battle for the TVC-Ohio championship.
Last year, the Athens Bulldogs had a rough season. A tornado destroyed Basil Rutter Field last September, which forced the team to play home games at Ohio University’s Peden Stadium.
The Bulldogs also finished with a 500 percent record, which was a disappointing compared to their 9-1 campaign in 2009. However, the Bulldogs with a new $1 million stadium and a 5-0 record are looking for their first TVC-Ohio championship since joining the conference in 2008.
“We got a real nice group of seniors this year that really committed themselves the last 3 years to be in this kind of situation where were 5-0,” said Athens Head Coach Ryan Adams.
The other two TVC-Ohio teams that are also unbeaten are Alexander and Nelsonville-York. This week Athens will meet Meigs, a surprise team this year in the TVC-Ohio with a 4-1 record. The Bulldogs are not looking ahead and are only worried about Meigs this week.
“We’re just going take it one game at a time. We are 0-0 right now coming into league play. We just want to get Meigs this Friday. Hopefully we play hard, execute the game plan. And next week will go on and get another one,” Said Athens quarterback Josh Skinner.
“Scores and records go out the door when you get into league play. It’s all about executing what you do and make sure you scouted and have taken a good look at the opposing team,” said Coach Adams.
The Bulldogs won’t get to play Alexander or Nelsonville-York until week 8 and week 10 respectfully. Coach Adams knows his team must win but is not too concerned with dropping a game in the coming weeks.
“The TVC-Ohio is such a tough league. It’s a situation where you could lose a ball game. But there is still other teams knocking each other off too. One ball game is definitely not the end of the road,” said Coach Adams.
However, Athens may have to go unbeaten to win the TVC-Ohio this season. Nelsonville-York has had a stranglehold on TVC-Ohio championship since the new millennium. With Alexander being a playoff team the last two years, it won’t be an easy path to the championship.
