Mother Pleads Guilty In Boys’ Camping Deaths
< < Back to mother-pleads-guilty-boys-camping-deaths-0A mother has pleaded guilty to child endangering and sentenced to three years in prison in the drowning of her 3-year-old stepson and disappearance of the boy's 2-year-old brother during an eastern Ohio camping trip.
Monday's plea agreement and sentencing in Zanesville came less than two weeks after Kasey Klein's husband Richard was acquitted by a jury in the drowning of their children in the Muskingum River in June 2011.
The Kleins had been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and child endangering in 2012 and sentenced to 12 years each in prison. But the verdicts were overturned by an appeals court that ruled the trials should have been separated.
Prosecutors argued that the Kleins were reckless in camping 25 feet from the river. The 2-year-old's body was never found.
