Staff At Putnam Health Laid Off
< < Back to staff-putnam-health-laidThe entire staff at the Putnam County Health Department has been laid off because of budget problems.
Media outlets report that the Putnam County Board of Health unanimously approved the layoffs Monday. The department has 12 full-time and two part-time positions.
The board plans to contract with the Kanawha-Charleston Health Department to provide public health services for at least six months.
Senior interim administrator Lolita Kirk told the board that the health department has a $215,000 debt.
Kirk also said the Putnam County employees can apply for positions that the Kanawha-Charleston will need to add to provide services in the county.
The layoffs must be approved by the state Division of Personnel.
