Athens Conservancy Buys Land in Strouds Run
< < Back to athens-conservancy-buys-land-strouds-runThe Athens Conservancy recently purchased 50 acres of forested land as a means to protect the Dow Lake Watershed.
The Conservancy took out a mortgage on the property, saying the purchase was time-sensitive and they could not use grant money to buy the land. "We seriously depleted our cash resources to buy this," said Phil Cantino, vice president of the Athens Conservancy.
The group aims to protect the water quality of Dow Lake, which they call "the centerpiece of Strouds Run State Park." The area includes land near the headwaters of Tucker Run, a tributary to Strouds Run.
