Tuesday marked another addition to the 2014 recruiting class for the University of Rio Grande softball team. The university announced the signing of Jenna Crawford of Green High School in Franklin Furnace, Ohio, according to RioRedStorm.com.

Crawford, who stands at 5-foot-5, is a jack-of-all-trades type player that can play the middle infield, outfield and also pitch. She is a naturally right handed batter that is capable of batting from the left side of the plate.

In Crawford’s junior and seniors seasons at Green High School she batted .511 and .519, respectively. Those totals helped her achieve All-Southeast District honors in consecutive seasons. A .302 batting average in her sophomore season, along with her junior and senior season batting averages earned her a spot on the All-Southern Conference first team three years straight.

In addition to Crawford’s conference and district honors, she was awarded the Ohio High School Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete twice, named the second baseman twice on the All-Ohio Underclassmen Team, and finally the Wendy's High School Heisman award in 2012.

"I think I'll be able to put her wherever we need her in the field,” RedStorm head coach Kristen Bradshaw said to RioRedStorm.com. “She also brings another great bat to our lineup."

Regarding Crawford’s abilities in the circle, her high school coach Tony Ellis said to premierscouting.com, “She has good control of her pitches and the confidence in them to challenge hitters with any one she throws.”

The versatile player’s abilities also garnered interest from Wilmington College and Marietta College.

Crawford becomes Rio Grande’s third signing of the 2014 class. Earlier in June the Bradshaw added another middle infielder and another player capable of hitting and pitching.

All three, and any other future signings will look to improve a RedStorm team that finished 22-19 in 2013.
