Arrests Made in Scrap Metal / Wire Thefts
< < Back to arrests-made-scrap-metalwire-theftsTwo men arrested Saturday for stealing scrap metal and electrical wiring from a Hebbardsville Road business are believed to have been connected to other thefts in the area.
Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly said Deputy John Kulchar was responding to Kal Electric on Hebbardsville Rd, after an employee of Smith Concrete saw the two men stealing wiring from the business.
Kal Eletric Owner Dirk Walton told Kulchar that about $3,000 of scrap aluminum and electrical wire had been stolen from their building.
After taking the report, Kulchar patrolled Hebbardsville Rd. and located a tan, older model Chevy Truck with the two men inside.
Kelly identified the pair as Brandon Masters, 19 of Millfield, and Jerry Smith, 30 of Chauncey,
Masters was previously identified in the theft of scrap metal at Cochrans on State Rt. 33 in which Athens County Lt. Steve Sedwick was injured.
Smith was wanted in connection of the theft of a purse last week in Chauncey.
A warrant for Smith was issued Friday for the Chauncey theft.
Masters told Deputy Kulchar they did illegally obtain the scrap wire from Kal Electric.
Masters and Smith are both being charged with Breaking and Entering and Theft.
Masters and Smith were taken to the SEORJ.
