Bobcats Add Southpaw To 2014 Class
< < Back toAfter a quiet two months on the recruiting trail, Ohio Baseball finally made some noise. Mason McWilliams, a left-handed pitcher, announced his verbal commitment to Ohio via his personal Twitter account on Sunday, becoming the Bobcats’ first commit of the 2014 class since May 18.
At 5-foot-10 and 175 lbs, McWilliams currently pitches at Seneca East High School in Northweast Ohio. Last season he aided the Tigers to a 22-5 regular season record, and a trip to the OHSAA Division IV regional semifinals.
The lefty is capable of throwing four pitches, with a delivery that requires little effort. He has a fastball that sinks slightly and tops out at 87 mph. He also throws a straight changeup, a hard slider and a curveball.
Last year as a junior, McWilliams earned Midland Athletic League first team honors. He was also named to the Division IV second team.
Ohio finished the 2013 season 14-39. No regular starting pitcher posted more than two wins.
McWilliams’ commitment is currently nonbinding, and will not become binding until he signs a National Letter of Intent. The week-long early signing period for baseball players begins Nov. 13.
