Over 150 Citations Issued During Huntington Cleanup
< < Back to over-150-citations-issued-during-huntington-cleanupProperty owners in Huntington have received more than 150 citations since July 1 for violating a new ordinance aimed at eliminating outdoor junk, trash, weeds and tall grass.
The citations were issued on the spot. Previously, owners had 10 days to clean up their properties before citations were issued.
The city issued 99 citations during the entire previous fiscal year that ended June 30.
As part of the cleanup effort, the city transferred its two code enforcement officers from the Inspections and Compliance Department to a new unit under the police department.
Huntington Police Sgt. Darin Dempsey says the unit receives 20 to 30 tips per day about rundown properties through the police department's anonymous tip line.
