Two Arrested For Stealing Steaks
< < Back to two-arrested-stealing-steaksA man and woman who pleaded guilty in relation to scrap metal thefts in Hocking County in 2011 were arrested on Sunday in Chauncey after allegedly stealing $220 of steak from Kroger in Athens.
Zachariah Dye, 36, formerly of Logan, was arrested and taken to Southeastern Ohio Regional Jail on warrants out of Hocking and Fairfield County, and additional charges are expected, according to Athens County Sheriff Pat Kelly.
Nancy Anderson, 32, also formerly of Logan, was similarly arrested and taken to SEORJ on warrants out of Hocking County Municipal Court and the Wellston Police Department.
Kelly said Sunday that ACSO Lt. John Morris was patrolling Chauncey when a motorist stopped to inform him a man and woman started running when they saw his cruiser.
The motorist allegedly told Morris the two were carrying bags and he believed they were hiding behind a house across the street from Cee-Dee Handy Mart. Morris allegedly found Dye and Anderson crouched behind a residence.
Inside their bags were thick cuts of steak valued at $220.
In September 2012, Dye pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and criminal trespassing in relation to various scrap metal thefts in Hocking County. A bench warrant was issued for his arrest in March after he failed to attend a review hearing for the court costs and fines he owes.
In relation to one of the thefts, Anderson pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing in July 2011. A bench warrant was issued for her arrest in May after she also failed to attend a review hearing about her costs and fines.
