Food Stamp Benefits To Decrease In November
< < Back to food-stamp-benefits-decrease-novemberAbout 1.8 million Ohioans who get food stamps will see a reduction in benefits when a federal program expires in November.
And a new report says that will be devastating to the people who use the program.
In 2009, as part of the economic-stimulus law, federal food assistance increased maximum monthly benefits for food-stamp recipients. That increase will expire at the end of October for the 47 million Americans using food stamps.
The Center for Budget and Policy Priorities says 16 percent of Ohioans would see nutrition assistance cut by a total of $193 million through September 2014.
The Columbus Dispatch reports that for a family of three, that means $29 less per month – leaving them each with less than $1.40 per meal.
