COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) – The Dispatch Printing Company has reached an agreement to sell its publishing operations to the New York-based New Media Investment Group. The sale includes the longtime family owned Columbus Dispatch.

Chairman and publisher John F. Wolfe described the decision to sell the publication his family has owned for 110 years as “extraordinarily difficult.” But he said it offers the best chance for the publication’s future.

The deal announced Wednesday includes the newspaper, with a circulation of more than 130,000 daily and 235,000 on Sundays; the suburban ThisWeek weeklies; and seven magazines, including Columbus Monthly. The Dispatch Printing Company is retaining non-print assets, including broadcast operations and a real estate company.

New Media is among the largest publishers of locally-based print and online media in the U.S., including 126 daily publications.
