Cincinnati Jurors Begin Deliberations In Discrimination Case
< < Back to cincinnati-jurors-begin-deliberations-discrimination-caseJurors have begun deliberating whether the city of Cincinnati discriminated and retaliated against a black firefighter in what he called "a classic case of institutional racism."
Deliberations began Thursday after a week-long trial in the federal discrimination lawsuit by Cincinnati fire Lt. Mark Broach.
In closing arguments, Broach's attorney cited the 50th anniversary of Martin Luther King's "I Have a Dream" speech and historic March on Washington, telling jurors they have a chance to return a verdict that will reverberate across Cincinnati that discrimination is unacceptable.
The city attorney says Broach doesn't have facts to back up his claims and that there's a difference between being treated unfairly and racial discrimination.
Broach says he was targeted for defending a fellow black firefighter and filing a discrimination complaint with the city.
