Shook Twins to Kick Off Stuart’s Free Summer Concert Series
< < Back to shook-twins-to-kick-off-stuarts-free-summer-concert-seriesStuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville will kick off its Free Summer Concert Series this Friday, June 26, at 7 p.m. with indie-folk-pop group The Shook Twins.
The concert series, which takes place in the Stuart’s Opera House parking lot, coincides with Final Fridays, Nelsonville’s monthly arts event.
Hailing from Portland, Oregon, The Shook Twins are made of Katelyn and Laurie Shook, Kyle Volkman and Niko Daoussis. The group utilizes a wide range of instruments, including banjo, guitar, electric and upright bass, mandolin, electric guitar, electronic drums, face drum (beatbox), glockenspiel, ukulele and banjo drumming, to create a unique and eccentric blend of folk, roots, groove and soul.
After releasing their first album You Can Have the Rest, the sisters moved to Portland in December of 2009, where they recorded their 2011 release Window (featuring Bonnie Paine and Bridget Law of Elephant Revival). Favorable reviews, extensive radio airplay and a busy tour schedule has created a growing fanbase and kudos from major musicians. The band recently finished recording their third album with Grammy-nominated producer Ryan Hadlock at Bear Creek Studios as well as partnering and recording an album with fellow Portland musician Ben Darwish on his concept piece, The Clear Blue Pearl.
The Shook Twins have shared the stage with many well-known artists, including: Ryan Adams, David Grisman, Mason Jennings, Blizten Trapper, Carolina Chocolate Drops, Sarah Jarosz, Laura Veirs, The Fruit Bats, JJ Grey and MoFro, The Indigo Girls, The BoDeans, Elephant Revival, The Head and The Heart, The Lumineers and many others. This will be a return visit for The Shook Twins, having performed in Nelsonville during last year’s Hocktoberfest at Hocking College.
Final Fridays events get underway at 5:30 p.m. at shops and galleries around the Public Square, with music starting at 7 p.m. Stuart’s Opera House’s 1879 Gallery will host an opening featuring quilts from the Piecelovers Quilt Guild.
The Free Summer Concert Series continues on July 31, Aug. 28 and Sept. 25 (artists TBA). For more information, visit stuartsoperahouse.org.
