OU Student Withdraws Candidacy, Patterson Unopposed in Mayor’s Race

The Republican candidate in the Athens mayoral race has withdrawn his candidacy, leaving Democrat Steve Patterson unopposed on the November general election ballot.
According to the Athens County Board of Elections, Andrew Looker withdrew his candidacy on Thursday. Looker is an Ohio University student and employed at Walmart.
On Tuesday, Patterson said he was surprised to hear that he will be unopposed on the ballot. Patterson was also unopposed in the Democratic primary last month.
