Video: ACEnet STEAMS Up
< < Back to acenet-steams-upACEnet launched its first ever STEAM camp this Monday for middle school and early high school students.
STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics.
One of the camp activities is to design, build, and customize a project from start to finish. The students are building doors that will open and close by computer sensors as their main project.
Students got the opportunity to tour local manufacturing companies in Athens like Quidel, who is also one of the camps partners that helped create STEAM.
Senator Sherrod Brown helped create STEAM camp and sent the students a video message to thank them for their participation.
“It’s exciting that you’re using your creativity and your curiosity as you learn about one of our state’s most important economic sectors, manufacturing,” Brown said.
Brown encouraged the students to dream big.
“We need talented, imaginative people like you to become the next generation of Ohio’s scientists and manufacturers that will turn dreams into reality,” he said.
The camp runs until Friday, June 26 at ACEnet’s Athens Business Campus.
A showcase of the students’ sensor doors and other final projects will be showcased Friday from 1-4pm.
