< < Back to oupd-investigating-death-studentOfficials with the Ohio University Police Department are investigating the death of first-year student Michael Robinson, who was found early Saturday morning in Atkinson Hall, a residence hall on South Green.
“Based on information known to police at this time, there is no reason to believe the death represents an ongoing threat to the safety of the community,” Chief Andrew Powers in a news release.
Officers responded to a call at 5:20 a.m. on Saturday. Robinson, a psychology pre-physical therapy major in the College of Arts & Sciences, was a resident of Foster House, also on South Green.
The Ohio Attorney General’s office Bureau of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation, states the release.
In an email released to students, Jenny Hall-Jones, dean of students, said she is deeply saddened by the student’s death.
“Michael passed away unexpectedly in Atkinson Hall,” she wrote.
Hall-Jones reminded students that Residential Housing and Counseling & Psychological Services are on-site in both Atkinson Hall and Foster House to provide support.
“Remember to take care of yourself and each other,” she wrote. “Please ask for help if you need it.”
No further details of the investigation are available at this time.
