Board of Developmental Disabilities Exploring Privatization
< < Back to board-of-developmental-disabilities-exploring-privatizationThe Athens County Board of Developmental Disabilities is exploring the possibility of privatizing the organization.
At its most recent meeting on June 23, the Board took action after a nearly hour and a half executive session to not only investigate its current Supt. Eric Young on grounds of termination, but to also instruct Acting Supt. Maryalice Turner to bring in speakers to explore privatization.
Many changes are happening at the state and federal levels, Board president John Day told The Messenger, which would impact how county boards operate. The board has reached out to other counties on how they’ve reacted to these changes, noting, “Our stakeholders and employees have raised concerns about the future of our programs and the issue of privatization.”
