Ohio Brew Week Kicks Off, Celebrates 10 Years
< < Back to ohio-brew-week-kicks-off-celebrates-10-yearsFor nine days every summer, craft brews from all over the state of Ohio take over the taps in Athens. From July 10-18, uptown Athens will become a gathering place for brewers and beer lovers to toast to unique craft beers and show the best of what Ohio has to offer.
Celebrating its 10th anniversary, Ohio Brew Week isn’t just about the beer. It’s celebrated with events and parties throughout the week, including a Brew BQ, a home brew competition and the Last Call Street Festival. A full schedule of events can be found at this link.
According to Mary McDonald, director of the Ohio Craft Brewer’s Association, Ohio’s craft brewing industry has grown exponentially in the past years. “There are 120 craft breweries open today, compared with 58 in 2012,” said McDonald. “Small breweries are opening in towns and neighborhoods large and small across Ohio, providing jobs and local flavor around our great state.”
Besides serving up uniquely local beers, OBW is teaming up with the 30 Mile Meal project (which encourages consumers to eat food from within a 30 mile radius) and local restaurants to offer one-of-a-kind farm to table meals during the nine-day celebration.
“Overlapping with 30 Mile Meal Week, expanding our scope into wine and spirits, and getting other local-centric businesses involved with the event is a great evolution for OBW,” said Executive Director Weston Lombard. “It helps to promote some of the best of Athens culture. Ohio Brew Week is the ideal time to come see what Athens is all about.”
