Ohio University’s School of Media Arts and Studies and School of Music will host Ira Kaplan, indie musician and frontman of Yo La Tengo, on Tuesday, Sept. 17 from 2-3 p.m. at Glidden Music Hall.

Kaplan will visit Ohio University for an onstage interview about the story and 30-year success of Yo La Tengo.

"Their story is one of building a successful career. In the tumultuous environment of today’s music and media industries, their achievements are impressive," said Josh Antonuccio, an instructor in the School of Media Arts and Studies. "They have a dedicated following, have consistently put out great records, provide soundtrack music for major films and continue to be darlings of music critics."

Antonuccio will interview Kaplan at 2 p.m. on Sept. 17. Later that evening, Yo La Tengo will play at Stuart’s Opera House in Nelsonville in the midst of a worldwide tour, which has included major performances at the Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago, the FYF Fest in Los Angeles and Riot Fest in Denver.

Antonuccio reached out to Kaplan while he was on tour with Yo La Tengo in London and asked that he stop by Athens for the exclusive event.

"Ohio University students will have the opportunity to hear firsthand from someone who has achieved commercial and artistic success and is respected as a musical icon," said Antonuccio.

Yo La Tengo has been hailed by Rolling Stone magazine for "incorporating everything from cocktail jazz to psychedelic noise freakouts to gorgeous acoustic tunes into their albums. Yo La Tengo have been one of the most restless and most consistently good bands of the past 25 years. The trio have been pegged as a critics' band, but their warm, open-armed sound has helped them develop one of the biggest followings in indie rock."

The Ohio University event is free and open to the public.
