Former Ohio guard Walter Offutt confirmed Thursday night that he will be an assistant varsity basketball coach at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis.

“I’m still in the final stages of figuring out what I’m doing,” Offutt said via text message. “As of right now, I will be an Assistant Varsity Basketball Coach at Cathedral High School in Indianapolis!”

Offutt was on the 2012 Ohio team that advanced to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament and finished his collegiate career last season. He pursued his master’s degree in coaching education at Ohio University.

Three members of Offutt’s class – D.J. Cooper, Ivo Baltic and Reggie Keely –continued their basketball careers overseas this summer. Offutt considered that option, but decided to pursue his career in coaching.

“I did consider it and had some good offers, but my heart has been on getting into coaching for a while now,” Offutt said.

Offutt played high school basketball for Warren Central High School in Indianapolis.
