Theatergoers of all ages will be pleased with the different offerings from Ohio University Lancaster Theatre, according to Director Victor Jones, who has announced the upcoming season’s shows.

“We are still in the middle of our summer production of ‘West Side Story’ but it’s great to start thinking about the new academic year and what is ahead,” he said.

In November, OUL Theatre will perform Neil Simon’s Barefoot in the Park. The show will run Nov. 4–8.

“The show is about Paul and Corie Bratter, who are newlyweds,” said Jones. “Paul is a straight-as-an-arrow lawyer and Corie is a free spirit. Their new apartment is her most recent find, too expensive with bad plumbing and in need of a paint job. After a six day honeymoon, they get a surprise visit from Corie’s mother and decide to play matchmaker during a dinner with their neighbor-in-the-attic, Velasco, where everything that can go wrong, does.”

In December, OUL Theatre will perform A Charlie Brown Christmas by Charles M. Schulz. The classic animated television special comes to life in this faithful stage adaptation where Charlie Brown, Snoopy and the other Peanuts gang grapple with the real meaning of Christmas. The show will run Dec. 3–6.

The spring semester show will be The 39 Steps, adapted by Patrick Barlow, from the novel by John Buchan and made famous by the 1935 Alfred Hitchcock film.

“In The 39 Steps, a man with a boring life meets a woman with a thick accent who says she’s a spy,” said Jones. “When he takes her home, she is murdered. A mysterious organization called ‘The 39 Steps’ is hot on the man’s trail in a nationwide manhunt that climaxes in a death-defying finale. 150 characters are played by a cast of four. There is an on-stage plane crash, handcuffs, missing fingers and good old-fashioned romance.”

The 39 Steps will run March 30–April 3.

Auditions for Barefoot in the Park and A Charlie Brown Christmas will be held during the first week of classes. Auditions will be on Tuesday, Aug. 25 from 3-5:30 p.m. Callbacks will be on Thursday, Aug. 27 from 3-5 p.m.
