Construction Begins On Columbus Road In Athens
< < Back to construction-begins-columbus-road-athensConstruction began Monday on Columbus Road in Athens.
Flaggers are directing traffic, while York Paving works on shoulder grading and prepare for the installation of a median.
According to a press release from the city website, work on the area is expected to be completed by September 20.
So far, businesses on Columbus Road have been unaffected by the construction, but employees look forward to an improved road.
Jeremy Bowman, part owner of Crumbs Bakery, said he's looking forward to seeing the final product.
"It may be an inconvinience temporarily, but I'm excited they're doing the repairs and as far as I know, they could possibly be widdening the road a little bit," Bowman said.
Bernice Gilmore, business manager of Gilmore Orthodontics, said after seeing a few potholes in Columbus Road, she thinks the construction will bring big improvements.
"It's just nice that they're taking care of the roads and doing the appropriate work that they need to do," she said.
Construction on the Lancaster Street waterline installation is also continuing.
The City of Athens said any construction concerns can be directed to the City of Athens Engineering and Public Works Department.
