Soccer: Oberlin Ousts Marietta, 1-0

Though Saturday’s match in Oberlin appeared even, the hometown team walked away with the victory. The Yeowomen topped Marietta 1-0.
It took 80 minutes of play for a ball to find the back of the net, but freshman Cam Sarcistan’s goal proved to be all that Oberlin would need. Her dribble into the left side of the box led to a strike to the right side of the net, beating Marietta freshman keeper Sam Kelley.
Kelley got the start in goal while senior Kaitlyn Pearse recovers from an injury she sustained in Wednesday’s match against Washington and Jefferson.
Kelly looked solid in net up until Sarcistan’s goal, saving six shots in the second half alone. Her Oberlin counterpart Kate Frost watched the Pioneers fire off six shots on the day, but only needed to make a save on Stacey Smith’s 89th-minute attempt on goal.
Each squad played aggressively on both halves of the pitch, with nine fouls and nine corner kicks between them.
Saturday’s match ended a week for Marietta which saw the Pioneers drop three matches and get outscored 8-1.
Marietta (2-5, 0-0) will have a few days to recover and regroup before it takes on a tough Hiram College squad (5-2, 0-0) on Thursday in Hiram, Ohio.
