Rallying for Recovery
< < Back to rallying-recoveryColumbus — Hundreds of people gathered in front of the Ohio Statehouse for the Ohio Rally for Recovery on Wednesday.
The annual rally is to honor and celebrate people who are recovering from their addiction to alcohol and other drugs.
“The purpose of the rally is to raise awareness among the general public that recovery is very possible and thousands of people recover everyday,” Donna Conley with Ohio Citizen Advocates for Addiction Recovery said.
At the event, there were a variety of booths including treatment and prevention agencies, support networks and places one struggling with an addiction can go for help.
“Drugs have always been a problem but with the opiate epidemic in the last 3 to 4 years… it’s really a crisis now. People are dying, literally, everyday in Ohio,” Conley said.
Guest speakers were also there, sharing their personal struggles and achievements while overcoming their addiction.
“It’s an opportunity for people all over Ohio who are living in recovery from addiction to come together and celebrate the fact that they are living productive lives as Ohioans,” Tracy Plouck, Director of Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addictive Services, said. “This is an opportunity for us to reduce stigma and demonstrate that people are living in recovery from addiction all over our state and they’re doing very well.”
September is Addiction Recovery Awareness month in Ohio.
