Belpre, Federal Hocking Each Seek Win No. 1
< < Back to belpre-federal-hocking-each-seek-win-no-1Two winless teams have a chance to right the ship Friday and begin a run at the conference title.
Federal Hocking and Belpre have been outscored 149-33 through two games, cumulatively. The solution to reversing field, according to Belpre head coach Greg Adams, is simple.
“We’ve got to practice hard and execute better,” Adams said. “[We have to] eliminate penalties and turnovers. If we do that we will be alright.”
Executing Belpre’s game plan will fall on the quarterback Tavian Miller and running back Deijon Bedgood’s shoulders. The duo has combined for over 200 yards and 39 carries, but has yet to record a touchdown.
“[Miller and Bedgood] are certainly going to need to step up this week and play with a little more heart,” Adams said.
Miller and Bedgood will be facing a Federal Hocking defense will has allowed north of 40 points in two consecutive games. Even with two subpar performances, Lancer head coach Luke Richards doesn’t lack for confidence.
“Belpre has some explosive kids,” Richards said. “Our defense will stand up.”
Over on offense, Federal Hocking has struggled to keep quarterback A.J. Cobb upright. The Lancers have found some success when Cobb remains in the pocket and has time to throw.
“We need to start with more of a catch and throw game this week,” Richards said. “[It] will help out the run game too.”
The game will take place at Federal Hocking High School with kickoff at 7:30 p.m.
