Liberty Routs Ohio Field Hockey In Bobcats Home Opener
< < Back to ?p=134505The Liberty Flames overstayed their welcome with a 7-1 beat down of the Bobcats in Friday’s field hockey matchup at Pruitt Field.
The Flames dropped the ‘Cats to a 2-3 record and maintained their top-20 ranking.
Within the first two minutes of the match the Flames hit Ohio with a score when Ashlee Krulock knocked the ball into the net passed Ohio goal keeper Lina Trucco. For the next 20 minutes, the game remained at a 1-0 Liberty lead, until Natalie Barr scored at 21:06, making way for her teammates Hannah Jones and Hannah Doherty to add goals of their own, all within a five minute span that pushed Liberty’s lead to 3-0. The Flames scored two more times in the first period, despite Ohio’s 11 saves, to make the score 5-0 at half.
The second period was much of the same story for the ‘Cats as they were bullied around for another 35 minutes. Liberty’s size was too much for the Bobcats to handle as the Flames “were physical at the back, and they knocked us off the ball and we just weren’t able to match that,” head coach Neil Macmillan said. Liberty took a 7-0 lead before Kendall Ballard scored the home team’s lonely goal at 66:02. Liberty dominated the entire game, as it nearly tripled Ohio’s shot attempts with 26-9 ratio.
The Bobcats will try to bounce back to .500 with a home match up against Appalachian State at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
