David Wax Museum Returns To Stuart’s Opera House
< < Back to david-wax-museum-returns-stuarts-opera-houseStuart’s Opera House will welcome David Wax Museum for a special backstage show on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 8 p.m. North Carolina group Bombadil will open the evening.
David Wax Museum graced Stuart's stage in 2012 as an opener for the Carolina Chocolate Drops. Most recently, they thrilled fans with performances at the 2013 Nelsonville Music Festival.
Combining Latin rhythms, infectious melodies, and call-and-response hollering, the group was hailed by TIME for its "virtuosic musical skill and virtuous harmonies" and has built a reputation among concertgoers all over the U.S, Canada, Europe and China for "kicking up a cloud of excitement with their high-energy border-crossing sensibility" (The New Yorker).
After years busking at house concerts and touring with The Avett Brothers, the Carolina Chocolate Drops, and the Old 97s, David Wax Museum picked up the 2010 Boston Music Awards Americana Artist of the Year. In 2011 they released their second album, the acclaimed Everything Is Saved. The album’s single "Born with a Broken Heart" won the BMA’s Song of the Year.
Critical mass came with the band’s breakout performance at the 2010 Newport Folk Festival, with NPR's Bob Boilen filing their sound under "pure, irresistible joy." With another Newport set in 2011, an illustration in The New Yorker, placing #8 on Paste magazine’s "Best Live Acts of 2011," and a nod from TIME magazine as one of the top 10 acts of 2011’s South by Southwest, David Wax Museum has become one of the hottest new indie bands around.
Bombadil's sound has been described as "obtuse but melodic indie folk pop with a flair for the fantastic" and "…a combination of open-minded chamber folk and the bright and sunny pop music of the 1960s." Their new album, Metrics of Affection, was released in July on Ramseur Records.
Tickets for Tuesday's show are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. All tickets are general admission and the audience will sit on the stage with the performers. For more information, visit www.stuartsoperahouse.org.
