More than 1,800 Ohio National Guard employees have joined 8,700 air base workers on unpaid leave in Ohio as a result of the partial federal government shutdown.

Guard spokesman James Sims says 1,060 Air National Guard technicians and some 760 Army National Guard technicians reported to work Tuesday but were told they have been furloughed until further notice.

Those furloughed include dual-status technicians who maintain military membership while performing civilian duties. There are more than 15,800 Ohio National Guard employees statewide.

Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton had earlier informed 8,700 civil service employees they would be furloughed when the shutdown began.

The national museum there closed Tuesday, as did a national park in northeast Ohio.
