Ohio Volleyball Wins Another 3-1 Match, Beats FGCU
< < Back to ohio-volleyball-wins-another-3-1-match-beats-fgcuIn the first of what will be a two-match set Ohio volleyball defeated Florida Gulf Coast 3-1 (25-20, 20-25, 25-11, 25-20). The win moves them to 9-3 on the season, and for the third-straight weekend invitational the ‘Cats will go into their final match after winning their first two.
After splitting the first two sets 25-20, and 20-25 the Bobcats dominated the third set, winning it 25-11. A key part of that was the point that FGCU had 12 errors in a set of only 36 points, meaning 33 percent of all points ended in an Eagle mistake. At the same time the Bobcats deserve credit because they performed great offensively as well, producing 12 kills.
Along with that they extended the points, Meredith Ashy continued to show her defensive prowess by adding 17 digs throughout, and Erica Walker had a team-high of 18.
The fourth set was a back-and-forth affair until Ohio led 10-9. At that point the Cats’ were able to put together a big run that would effectively finish off the match.
The streak started with a service error, as noted before Eagle errors were a theme throughout, and then didn’t end until a service error seven points later. At that point Ohio led 16-10. The Bobcats would go up by a score of 21-13 as they looked to finish out the match, but the Eagles strung together a few points on a pair of kills by Lauren Tutwiler.
But in the end at 24-20 team leader Jamie Kosiorek iced the cake with an ace for a 25-20 fourth set win, and a Bobcats match victory.
The Bobcats won the first set 25-20, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. In that first set Ohio had a team hitting percentage of an incredible .576, and a team total of 20 kills. And even though the ‘Cats lost the second set, once again the offense had quite the output with 16 of their 20 points coming off of kills..
