CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) – West Virginia Secretary of State Natalie Tennant expects that an option to register to vote online will be ready by the end of the month.

Tennant spokeswoman Briana Wilson says the office is doing final testing this week on the online voter registration.

Registering online will require a West Virginia driver’s license or DMV identification card.

Prospective voters will be able to go to the secretary of state’s website and fill out a form. The form will extract the person’s signature on file with the DMV.

The application will be sent to the appropriate county clerk, who will double-check it and assign the person a voting precinct.

The clerk will then mail the voter a registration card.

Lawmakers passed an online voter registration bill in 2013.
