Ohio Men’s Golf Finishes 13th, Despite Season-Best Round

The Ohio men’s golf team continued the disappointing fall portion of its season with an overall score of 894 (+30), placing 13th of 17 teams at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio.
However, after a very sluggish start on Day One of the Invitational, the Bobcats had a solid third round, finishing with a season-best, two-over 290, led by freshman Peyton White with a four-under 68, and senior Phil Gieseker with a two-under 70. The tandem also turned in 13 birdies combined in the final round.
White continued the stellar start to his collegiate career, collecting a top-20 finish with a two-over 218 overall score, which also was the top score for Ohio. White also lowered his season stroke average to 72.88, which is also the best on the team.
Junior Andrew Mlynarski turned in a 226 (+10) overall, while Gieseker also turned in a 226 as well. The two players led the team by carding a combined 23 holes under-par in the tournament, highlighted by Gieseker’s eagle in the third round on Tuesday.
Senior Brad Lucas and junior Thomas Leech also participated in the tournament, but did not fare well. Lucas could not carry the momentum from a solid showing at Wolf Run two weeks ago to Akron, as he carded a 15-over 231. Leech was playing in his first tournament of the season, and turned in a 22-over 238 overall score.
The Bobcats have one more tournament on their fall schedule, as the team will travel to Fort Myers, Fla., to participate in the Cobra Puma Invitational on October 27-28.
