ADA25 Celebration Continues with Discussions, Workshops and Film Screening

The second week of the ADAD25 Celebration continues with a host of activities including panel discussions, a film screening, and a performance by the Dancing Wheels Company, sponsored by the President Advisory Council on Disability and Accessibility Planning (PACDAP) and the City Commission on Disabilities, as well as other various organizations.

 

On Tuesday, October 13, the ADA25 Celebration Panel Discussion will feature panelists Dr. Lynn Harter, Dr. Greg Kremer, Dr. John McCarthy, Dr. Diana Schwerha, and Dr. J.W. Smith, professors and directors of the Scripps College of Communication, the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, and the College of Health Sciences and Professions. Each panelist will highlight his or her project and what this work means to people living with disabilities. The panel will take place in the Scripps Hall Auditorium, room 111 from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Students are invited to have posters and demonstrations before and after the discussion.

 

Later that day, the Dancing Wheels Company will present ‘The Lasting Legacy Concert & Tour,” a mixed dialogue and dance in honor of ADA25 and the Company’s 35th Anniversary Season. The performance will take place Tuesday October 13 at 7 p.m. in the Baker University Center Theatre.

 

On Wednesday October 14, a public forum on Advancing Accessible Restrooms will take place in the Living Learning Commons on South Green from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Participants can hear about the social justice issues surrounding restrooms, and get the chance to provide input on OHIO restroom designs and construction specifications on future projects.

 

Picking up right where the forum ends, Matt Dingo and Audra Hilterbran from Ohio University Academic Technologies will present a workshop on Creating Accessible Word Documents. Training will be held on October 14 in Alden Library room 251 from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

 

On Friday, October 16, Career and Leadership Development Center Associate Director Lindsey Ward will present a Career and Leadership Development Overview and Career Coaching discussion, where students will receive an overview of the CLDC’s services and get the opportunity to meet with ta career coach for job searching and career development. The discussion will be held in the office for Student Accessibility Services, Baker University Center room 348 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

 

That afternoon, the film “Lives Worth Living” will be screened, followed by a discussion. The film follows the development of the disability rights movements in the United States through the stories of the movement’s pioneers. Following the film, a discussion will be held to share reactions and questions, and relate the activisms of disability rights to intersected LGBT identities seen in other social justice movement films. The screening will be held on October 16 in Baker University Center room 237 from 4p.m. to 6 p.m.
