Wahama, South Gallia in Similar Situations Ahead of Match-Up
< < Back to wahama-south-gallia-in-similar-situations-ahead-of-match-upThe 2015 season has not gone according to plan for the Wahama White Falcons.
With a 3-4 record with three games to play, the White Falcons face the possibility of finishing below .500 for the first time since 2005. However, after starting 1-3, Wahama has rebounded to win two of its last three contests, keeping its winning season hopes alive.
While South Gallia is not attempting to uphold over a decade of excellence, it is very much in the same boat. Its momentum swing came in the form of a comeback win on Friday.
After falling in a 13-0 hole on the road against Waterford, the Rebels stormed back. The momentum turned with a 31-yard touchdown pass from South Gallia quarterback Landon Hutchinson to Kane Hutchinson to pull the Rebels within a possession with just 1:10 remaining in the half.
The Hutchinson brothers connected four times on the night, but running back Johnny Sheets sealed the comeback win for the Rebels with an 85-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
The trio of Rebels have established themselves as playmakers, but South Gallia head coach Jason Peck enjoys the luxury of fielding multiple options.
“It might be Landon [Hutchinson], it might be Kane [Hutchinson], it might be Isaiah Geiger, it might be someone else,” Peck said. “We’ve got some weapons, as they do.”
“You can’t really predetermine what’s going to work and you don’t really know the game plan right now, but we’ve got one. We have to see what theirs is and try to counter,” Peck added.
On paper, Friday’s game should be a close one. South Gallia averages a loss by 3.3 points per game this season, while Wahama also averages a loss, but by a slightly larger 3.5 points per game margin. Both teams also lost to the TVC-Hocking leading Trimble Tomcats by 42-point margins. The Rebels and the White Falcons both fell to second-place Belpre as well, with final scores of 44-0 and 44-6, respectively.
Both teams are coming off road wins against TVC-Hocking foes and need to win Friday’s game to keep the opportunity of an above .500 season alive.
“We’re hungry,” Peck said. “The last two years, we’ve been .500 or above, we’ve had success, we’ve been to the playoffs a few times in our school’s young history.
“We’re definitely hungry. We want those six wins, but I’m sure Wahama is hungry as well. They’ll be bringing everything they’ve got.”
The Rebels and White Falcons kick off from South Gallia on Friday at 7:30 pm.
