Board Chairman Michael Sellards told media outlets that the board chose the new president in a closed-door session Monday morning. He says the choice will be announced once a contract is finalized and the selection is approved by the state Higher Education Policy Commission.
The three finalists for president were Mississippi State University Provost and Executive Vice President Jerome Gilbert, Oregon Institute of Technology President Christopher Maples and University of Southern Mississippi Professor and former Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Denis Weisenburg.
The three candidates were interviewed last week.
Sellards says the new president should be announced before the board’s next meeting on Oct. 28.
