Ohio Women’s Basketball Wins Big in Exhibition

Their first game back may have just been a scrimmage, but it appeared the Mid-American Conference champions didn’t get the memo, as Ohio women’s basketball outplayed but out hustled Wilmington College to a 97-41 home win on Saturday afternoon.
The Bobcat players could be found laying on the floor almost as often as they were on their feet, as the ‘Cats fought for every loose ball and made hustle play after hustle play. The Bobcats also used their size to their advantage to dominate the offensive boards and play stiff defense down low.
As a whole, the Bobcats played extremely tough defense, but they really shined was along the perimeter, where they caused numerous turnovers and deflections. The Bobcats tight perimeter defense also forced Wilmington to make many errant passes inside that got deflected or stolen.
On the offensive side of the ball, the Bobcats were just as hot, starting the game off on a 17-2 run. All afternoon they continued to have their way with the Quakers’ defense, seemingly scoring at will. Just like last season, the Cats’ really shined behind the three point line, where they were 15 of 40. On the inside, it was Quiera Lampkins doing much of the dirty work for the Bobcats. She shot 6 of 11 for 17 points and displayed some polished post moves.
Even in the 56-point loss, there were some bright spots for Wilmington. Brittaney Jefferson. Jefferson had 10 points to go along with seven assists, and played well even as most of her team struggled.
For Bobcat fans, the afternoon exhibition was the first chance to see Ohio’s freshmen in action, and most did not leave disappointed as the newcomers performed well. Olivia Bower led the way for the freshmen, as she scored 15 and pulled down four boards. Former Athens High School Star Dominique Doseck also stood out with 10 points and three assists.
For the Bobcats, the game was a good start to the year as they get ever closer to the upcoming season. Their next game comes on the road against the Illinois Fighting Illini, with a 2p.m. tipoff on Nov. 15.
