Roe Named Interim Ohio Swimming Coach

Ohio Athletics announced Wednesday that Greg Werner will no longer serve as head coach of Ohio Swimming and Diving. Assistant coach Derick Roe will be serving as interim head coach for the remainder of the season.
"We feel that we need to move the program in a different direction," Ohio University Athletics Director Jim Schaus said in a statement. "We thank Greg for all of his commitment to the program and we wish him the very best in the future."
Werner was in his 19th season as the Bobcats’ head coach. During his tenure, he led the team to an overall record of 215-110-3 (163-39-2 MAC), including a season-opening win over Ball State on Oct. 26. Since Werner came to the program in 1994 he has continued Ohio’s tradition of excellence, compiling 11 MAC Women’s Championships as well as coaching seven MAC Swimmers of the Year.
Roe has only been at Ohio for a year, and he’s looking to fill big shoes.
Roe holds the MAC record for the 50-yard freestyle, which he achieved as a student at Eastern Michigan University. The new Ohio swimming coach was an assistant coach at Colgate University from 2010-12.
Roe will get his first head coaching experience Saturday at home against Buffalo.
Russ Dekker will remain the diving coach.
