Nelsonville-York Buckeyes: Dec. 13-20

The Buckeyes were carrying a three game win streak into their matchup with Vinton County, but that momentum was brought to a crashing halt as they were blown out by the Vikings 75-42 in their first matchup of the week.
The Vikings have risen up as the team to beat in the TVC-Ohio, and they showed it early on as they were able to build a 42-10 halftime lead over the Buckeyes and coast to the easy victory.
Coach Kline noted how the Vikings were able to set the pace of the game at will.
“They came out firing early,” Kline said. “We just weren’t able to keep our offensive pace up to speed with theirs.”
The Buckeyes were led in scoring by Hunter Edwards with 10 points, followed by Christian Berry with nine points.
The Vikings offense was too much for the Buckeyes as they went 26-54 from the field and shot 79% from the free throw line.
Things didn’t get much better for the Buckeyes later on in the week as they took on the Mason Chapman led Alexander Spartans and were defeated 52-26.
Chapman led the Spartans to the victory behind his team high 15 points – which all came from the 3-point shot.
The buckeyes were able to contain Chapman up until the end of the first half where he hit 3 shots to spark an 11-3 end of half run.
From there the Spartans never looked back.
The Buckeyes offense became their Achilles heel as they turned the ball over 21 times and were 11 of 29 from the field.
Kline wasn’t quick to harp of the negatives after the game, “There are a lot worse things in life than a loss,” Kline said after the game. “We want to learn from it, we want to bounce back from it, we want to move forward.”
The Buckeyes will try to start a new winning streak when they take on A.J. Cobb and the Lancers at Federal Hocking on December 23rd.
