Accurso Named Great Lakes Regional Athlete of the Year
< < Back to accurso-named-great-lakes-regional-athlete-yearSenior cross-country runner Juli Accurso was voted the Great Lakes Athlete of the Year by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for the second year in a row.
The coaches from the Great Lakes Region voted on athletes on the men and women's side and also coaches of the year and the results were released Nov. 19. Accurso won the regional meet with a time of 20:00.0 and this time helped her attain the award. Her time in this event helped her finish nine seconds faster than the second place runner.
Accurso won the Great Lakes Regional Athlete of the Year in 2012 as well. She won the regional event with a time of 20:07.0 and that time helped her win the award as a junior. In 2012, Accurso ran three seconds faster than the second place finisher.
Accurso also has racked up other awards in her senior season, as she won the Mid-American Conference individual title for the third consecutive time with a time of 20:37.26.
Accurso has been selected to compete in the NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championships. The women's race is set to begin at 1:15 p.m. on Nov. 23 in Terre Haute, Ind.
