Distracted Driving Simulator Coming to OU Homecoming
< < Back to distracted-driving-simulator-coming-ou-homecomingThe Ohio Department of Transportation is offering the new Distracted Driver Simulator at Ohio University's Homecoming on Saturday.
The simulator, sponsored by Nationwide Insurance, allows drivers to test their ability to drive while being distracted by cell phone usage.
The homecoming event is part of a series of safety-related events across the state, aiming to educate Ohioans on how to use the roads safely – whether behind the wheel, behind the handlebars or on foot.
"Each year distracted driving accidents account for millions of dollars in damages and countless numbers of lives," said Natalie Stollar of Nationwide Insurance.
The insurance company reports crashes in 2010 cost Ohioans nearly $13 billion and 1,000 lives. The goal of ODOT's new safety campaign is to reduce roadway fatalities by 5 percent by 2015.
