OU-Lancaster Theatre Presents “Miracle on 34th Street”
< < Back toA miracle is about to happen at Ohio University Lancaster.
The Ohio University Lancaster Theatre production of Miracle on 34th Street will run Dec. 5–8.
“The last two years, we have done a production of It’s a Wonderful Life, and we had such a positive response to doing a holiday show in December that we wanted to keep that going,” said OUL Theatre Director Victor Jones. “In keeping with our season of classics theme for this school year, we decided to do Miracle on 34th Street.”
The play is about an old man who claims to be Santa Claus. The man is institutionalized, and a young lawyer decides to defend him by arguing in court that he is the real thing. A young girl’s belief in Santa is in jeopardy during the court case.
“The story of Miracle follows Santa’s journey with the young girl, Susan, and his effort to get her to believe in Santa Claus,” said Jordan LeuVoy, who plays Fred Gailey, Santa’s lawyer, in the play.
Mike Boring plays Kris Kringle, aka Santa Claus.
“It’s a lot of fun for me. I get to bring the joy,” said Boring. “Director Jones told me to find the eternal joy in my heart. I’m trying to convince Susan and her mother, Doris, that Santa is real.”
The Dec. 5-7 performances will include a holiday pre-show at 7 p.m. The play begins at 7:30 p.m.
“We have a pre-show that is a holiday sing-along with Lancaster Men’s Chorus and the Fairfield Men’s Ensemble,” said Assistant Director Abby Snyder. “So, if you want to bring children and come early for that, you can.”
The Sunday, Dec. 8 matinee will not include a pre-show. The play begins at 2 p.m. that day.
Tickets are between $10 and $12 each. To purchase tickets, call 740-654-6711, ext. 650 or visit www.ohio.edu/lancaster and click the “theatre” button.
