Season Outlook: Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes

Coming into the 2013-14 season, the Nelsonville-York Lady Buckeyes are looking to contend yet again for the TVC-Ohio crown. Last year, the Lady Buckeyes posted a 12-7 record in the regular season (6-4 in TVC-Ohio) before a heartbreaking loss to Alexander in the tournament.
This year, head coach Amanda Dalton is expecting a lot out of the girls, but has faith in their ability.
“We’ve got a squad that’s going to have to replace the rebounding and replace the outside shooting,” said Dalton. “This group of girls is very hardworking, and I expect them to go out and compete and battle each night.”
One strong aspect of the Lady Buckeyes’ play is their defense. Dalton is implementing the importance of transitional points to her squad this year.
“Our offense is run through our defense,” said Dalton. “We try to get as many offensive scores that we can in transition and that’s something that’s new this season as far as getting up and down the court and spacing the floor.”
The Lady Buckeyes have six returning letterman in the lineup, four of them being seniors.
Behind the offensive floor general Angela Meade, and defensive juggernaut Jennah Addis, the ladies are looking for an increased level of play from last year. Addis simply stated the Lady Bucks need to, “come out strong, and win a lot of games.”
Addis is a four-year varsity member who plays power forward. Last season, Addis averaged 5.4 points per game, 2.3 steals and 3.5 rebounds.
“I have always been working with diversity,” said Addis. “Being a freshman on varsity has allowed me to play with many different teammates.”
Another key impact to this Lady Buckeyes team is returning junior, Madison Davis.
As a sophomore, she had impressive numbers throughout the whole season, averaging 12.2 points, 9 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. Davis will be looking to play a huge role again in the Lady Buckeyes team going forward.
Senior guard Brooke Breeze averaged nine points per game, along with 2.5 steals and 2.2 rebounds. “I’m going to try to use my teammates more this year,” said Breeze. “I want the new girls to win as much as the returners do.”
Cassidy Dupler will be returning as a senior guard on this Lady Bucks squad.
The last of the returning lettermen is sophomore power forward, Kaitlyn Hurd. She was the only freshman to play varsity last season. Hurd had an average of three points per game, 2.6 rebounds and 1.1 steals.
The nitty-gritty play of the TVC-Ohio is always a challenging task to face every game, but there is positivity in all of the players on this Lady Buckeyes team.
