W.Va House to Hold Public Meeting on Permit-Less Gun Bill
< < Back to w-va-house-hold-public-meeting-permit-less-gun-billThe house of Delegates Judiciary Committee will hold a public meeting on Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. to allow the public to speak about a new concealed carry proposal. The proposal calls for the current permitting requirements to carry a concealed handgun to be lifted.
It is currently legal in West Virginia to carry a gun without a permit in an open fashion, such as in a holster.
A bill by Republican Del. Saira Blair would let people cover up guns without a permit in public spaces; for instance, wearing a coat over the fire arm. The bill also increases penalties for felonies committed with a gun.
Only a handful of states do not require concealed carry permits.
Democratic Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin vetoed a similar bill last year over safety concerns from law enforcement.
