In the very first minutes against the Wahama Lady White Falcons, the Eastern Lady Eagles came out strong and took the lead setting the pace for the rest of the game. Eastern dominated Wahama 48-17.

One key factor for the Lady Eagles was their defense. They gave up only 17 points in the entire game. Coach Burdette commented on the importance of this.

“We always talk about playing defense hard,” Burdette said. “No matter who you play I told the girls two things, you better play defense and execute your offense.”

Eastern put pressure on the Lady White Falcons, forcing them to take shots. Not only was the Lady Eagles defense a key aspect to the win on Thursday but their offense was also a major contribution. There were no scorers that significantly stood out, as the points were very widely distributed for Eastern.

Although Laura Pullins did not have her highest scoring game, she still played a huge role for the Eagles. Laura had six steals and made her presence felt on the court defensively. The Eagles worked well as a team and came kept the momentum for the majority of the game. Coach Burdette also mentioned that taking an early lead gave some of their starters a chance to sit and watch which will hopefully help them to prepare for their next game.

The Lady Eagles will travel and take on the No. 1 Waterford Wildcats this coming Monday Feb. 1. Meanwhile, the Wahama Lady White Falcons will host Belpre on the same day.
